Center

for Trauma Therapy

CTT uses methods that are based on over 100 years
of the study of trauma. Research shows that
trauma-related problems do not respond well
or efficiently to "talk" therapy.

The International Academy of Trauma Professionals has found that the best results are achieved from a combination of:

(1) a strong relationship with at least one person whose skills and knowledge about trauma can be relied upon without reservation;

(2) the ability to calm the nervous system even when symptoms are most active; and

(3) resolving traumatic memories and experiences without reliving them.

Anxiety and trauma are shape-shifters. The nature and extent of symptoms change, depending on the presence of  stressors and supportive factors.  Therefore, intervention at CTT occurs in stages:  evaluation, stabilization, trauma resolution, and aftercare. Assessments are used to identify not only problem areas, but each client's unique strengths and skills. Individual plans are created and modified as symptoms improve. Center for Trauma Therapy (CTT) refers many clients to Inez Dalton, M.D., a psychiatrist in Indialantic, Florida, who specializes in traumatic stress. Dr. Dalton conducts comprehensive trauma-based psychiatric evaluations and provides recommendations about medications that adhere to trauma-informed-care and best practices for traumatic stress and related conditions. Dr. Dalton is committed to using as little medication as possible, and only as a way to help the client regain internal equilibrium. Dr. Dalton promotes client- centered treatment plans and is mindful of and responsive to individual reactions to medications.

For the complex problems that couples and families suffer as a result of unresolved trauma, CTT highly recommends the services of Judith Siegler, a marriage and family therapist with special expertise in repairing relationships and strengthening relational and family bonds. Dr. Siegler works with Dr. Dalton in Indialantic, Florida. Unresolved trauma can cause a broad spectrum of problems, including debilitating fears, anxiety, and panic, loss of identity, recurrent and mystifying physical ailments, an inability to establish and maintain trusting and supportive relationships, and self destructive behaviors.

“... some of themost effective
trauma therapy I have seen
in thirty years of practice... compassionate and intelligent...”
George Woods, M.D.,
Neuropsychiatrist, San Francisco, CA

Intensive out-patient (IOP) therapy is one of the most effective means of resolving trauma. Clients work individually with Dr. Norton, a nationally recognized trauma therapist, for three to five days, during which time they collaborate to select the best methods to bring to completion fragmented memories and etched experiences that underlie persistent, complex symptoms. This approach allows clients to fully understand and achieve mastery over confusing and frightening events. The past is finally in the past. This method is highly collaborative and supportive. It allows clients to explore their experiences at their own pace, and with the help and guidance of a trained trauma professional.

Follow-up care is essential to trauma therapy. Clients design with the treatment team a plan that best fits their changing needs. They continue to work with any or all of the CTT doctors as their circumstances dictate. The end result is increasing self sufficiency with the knowledge that support is always available.
